bMessageX · coming to bWalletX

Private
by default.

Messages and calls that only the people in them can read or hear. Not us, not our servers, not whoever breaks into them.

bMessageX is not built yet. This page says plainly what is live and what is coming.

Illustration of the planned design.

What it is

Talk like Signal. Sign in like bWalletX.

bMessageX is private messaging and calling inside bWalletX, for people and for the companies they work for or own a piece of.

End-to-end encrypted

Messages are locked on your phone and unlocked on theirs. Our servers only carry sealed boxes they can't open.

Forward secrecy

Keys change as you talk. A key stolen tomorrow won't open yesterday's messages, and a stolen key stops working soon after.

No phone number

Your bWalletX is your identity. You message a $handle, not a SIM. Nothing to leak, nothing to port.

Safety numbers on $handles

Compare a short number in person or on a call to be sure $bob is really $bob. A change is always shown.

Company groups

Private groups for staff, officers and shareholders, with members set from the company's roles or share register.

Calls

Voice and video calls encrypted end to end, so the call server passes the audio along without being able to hear it.

How it works

Proven methods. Nothing home-made.

We use the same published protocols that protect billions of messages today, and an outside security audit comes before launch.

  1. One to one: the Double Ratchet

The method behind Signal. Each message gets a fresh key, and old keys are thrown away. That's what gives forward secrecy.

  2. Groups: MLS

Messaging Layer Security, an open internet standard for encrypted groups. It stays fast for big companies and gives everyone new keys when someone joins or leaves.

  3. Calls: encrypted media

Audio and video are encrypted on your device before they leave it. The call server forwards them but can't decode them.

  4. Your keys stay yours

Messaging keys live on each of your devices, separate from your money keys. Losing a phone doesn't expose your wallet, and a wallet backup doesn't expose your messages.

  5. Nothing secret on chain

Message content never goes on the blockchain. Every thread shows its mode clearly: Private, Recorded, or Not encrypted.

For companies

Run the board, the payroll and the deals in private.

Companies on chain are tribes: staff, shareholders and users. bMessageX gives each one a private place to talk inside, and a safe way to talk to the outside world.

Groups from your register

Staff, officers and shareholder groups follow the company's roles or share register. Leave the company and you leave the group, with new keys for everyone else.

Your branded wallet

Companies with their own branded bWalletX get bMessageX inside it, under their own name.

Recorded mode, explained plainly

Some companies, such as listed ones, must keep records. In Recorded mode the thread says so at the top, everyone in it can see that, and an agreed archive keeps a copy. Only a fingerprint and a time may go on chain to prove the record wasn't changed, never the words.

A private network, optional

Companies that want a second wall can run their message relay and call server on a private company network, off the public internet.

Honest status

What's live today, and what isn't.

bMessageX itself is not built yet. Here is exactly where things stand.

  • LivebWalletX, the wallet that will be your identityWeb, Chrome extension, iPhone and Android.
  • LivebMail encrypted letters to identity keysEncrypted end to end, but not yet forward-secret: if an identity key leaked, past letters to it could be opened.
  • ComingPrivate 1:1 messages with forward secrecy
  • ComingSafety numbers on $handles
  • ComingCompany groups (staff, officers, shareholders)
  • ComingEnd-to-end encrypted voice and video callsCalls in bWalletX today are encrypted to our call server, not end to end.
  • ComingRecorded mode for companies that must keep records
  • ComingCompany admin and private company networks
  • ComingOutside security audit, before launch

Chat rooms and DMs in bChatX today are not end-to-end encrypted. They will show "Not encrypted" until they move to bMessageX.
